Profile of Ron Weasley

Ronald Bilius Weasley is the sixth of Molly and Arthur's sons. He is currently
attending Hogwarts where he is the best friend of Harry Potter. Ron has a
generally positive outlook on life but struggles with feelings of having to live
up to five older brothers who have made their mark on Hogwarts one way or
another.

Ron also finds himself frustrated with being poor. "Why is everything I own
rubbish?" he exclaims when he is faced with second hand dress robes with lace on them and a maniacal little owl who chokes on owl treats.

Ron and Harry find themselves at odds occasionally and have even spent some
weeks not speaking to each other, but Ron is a devoted friend and helper for
Harry. Ron's skills at chess helped Harry pass through McGonagall's enchanted
chess set guarding the Philosopher's Stone. He lied for Harry when Snape caught
Harry with the evidence of an illicit visit to Hogsmeade in their third year,
saying he'd brought the Zonko's stuff back for Harry on a previous visit.
After Hagrid lost Buckbeak's case, Ron took over responsibility for the appeal
from Hermione, who was strained to the breaking point from her class load, and he was deeply offended over the Committee's unjust handling of the
final hearing. He urged Harry to protest to their Head of House or the
Headmaster when Umbridge gave Harry sadistic detentions.

Ron has been very supportive of Harry as he's been plagued by feedback from
his mental connection with Voldemort. His questions after a post-Quidditch
practice vision helped them both analyze how much information Harry was getting,
and he gave Harry some intelligent advice, although Harry refused to take it. He's taken action to snap Harry out of a couple of overpowering
nighttime visions, and protected Harry from having his problems become public
property via the other boys in their dormitory.

Drawing of Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley.Ron
seems to be developing an interesting and possibly romantic relationship with
Hermione, but for now it's in the arguing and teasing stage. He was highly
annoyed that Hermione went to the Yule Ball with Krum, but never got around to
asking her himself. He ended up going to the Ball with Padma Patil, but he was
so busy glowering at Hermione and Krum that Padma abandoned him to dance with
some boys from Beauxbatons. Ron didn't seem to mind in the least.

Ron is an avid Quidditch fan; his favorite team is the Chudley Cannons and
his bedroom at the Burrow -- an attic room at the top of the stairs -- is
plastered with posters of the team. Ron's broom, however, like everything else
he owns was a hand-me-down Shooting Star which is "frequently outstripped by
passing butterflies". In August of 1995, however, Ron became a prefect and
was rewarded by his mother with a new broom, a Cleansweep Eleven. That fall he
tried out for the Gryffindor Quidditch team and was made Keeper.

Ron gets plenty of teasing from his older brothers, particularly Fred and
George. When he was made a prefect during the twins' last year at Hogwarts, they
resumed their old habit of calling him by baby-talk nicknames, something they
hadn't done since his first year. They taunted him for awhile about whether he
would try to give them detention, but Hermione indirectly put a stop to the
worst of that.

When Ron was three, he broke Fred's toy broomstick, and Fred retaliated by
changing Ron's teddy bear into a giant spider, while Ron was holding it. Ron's
been terrified of spiders ever since, although he can tolerate working with dead
ones in Potions. After encountering Aragog in the forest, Ron was so
afraid he threw up in Hagrid's pumpkin patch.

Ron joined Hermione and a group of other students in forming a group to study
Defense Against the Dark Arts from Harry during his fifth year. As a member of
Dumbledore's Army, as they called themselves, Ron fought in the Battle of the
Department of Mysteries. He was wounded in that battle and spent some days in
the Hospital Wing recovering afterwards.

Quotes by and about Ron Weasley

From Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

"I’m the sixth in our family to go to Hogwarts. You could say I got a lot to live up to. Bill and Charlie have already left – Bill was head boy and Charlie was captain of Quidditch. Now Percy’s a prefect. Fred and George mess around a lot, but they still get really good marks and everyone thinks they’re really funny. Everyone expects me to do as well as the others, but if I do, it’s no big deal, because they did it first."

"We're nearly there," he muttered suddenly. "Let me think -- let me think..."
The white queen turned her blank face toward him.
"Yes..." said Ron softly, "it's the only way ... I've got to be taken."
"NO!" Harry and Hermione shouted.
"That's chess!" snapped Ron. "You've got to make some sacrifices! I take one step forward and she'll take me -- that leaves you free to checkmate the king, Harry!"

From Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
"Don’t talk to me," Ron said quietly. [...]
"Why not?" said Hermione in surprise.
"Because I want to fix that in my memory forever," said Ron, his eyes closed and an uplifted expression on his face. "Draco Malfoy, the amazing bouncing ferret ..."

"Look," said Hermione patiently, "it’s always you who gets all the attention, you know it is. I know it’s not your fault," she added quickly, seeing Harry open his mouth furiously. "I know you don’t ask for it ... but – well – you know, Ron’s got all those brothers to compete against at home, and you’re his best friend, and you’re really famous – he’s always shunted to one side whenever people see you, and he puts up with it, and he never mentions it, but I suppose this is just one time too many...."

Harry seized one of the POTTER REALLY STINKS badges off the table and chucked it, as hard as he could, across the room. It hit Ron on the forehead and bounced off.
"There you go," Harry said. "Something for you to wear on Tuesday. You might even have a scar now, if you're lucky.... That's what you want, isn't it?" (GF19)

"I can’t come with you," said Hermione, now blushing, "because I’m already going with someone."
"No you’re not!" said Ron. "You just said that to get rid of Neville!"
"Oh did I?" said Hermione, and her eyes flashed dangerously.
"Just because it’s taken you three years to notice, Ron, doesn’t mean no one else has spotted I’m a girl!"

From Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Harry's thoughts: Ron had not asked Dumbledore to give him the prefect badge. This was not Ron's fault. Was he, Harry, Ron's best friend in the world going to sulk because he didn' have a badge, laugh behind Ron's back, ruin this for Ron when, for the first time, he had beaten Harry at something?

In Divination class: "Well, I had one that I was playing Quidditch the other night," said Ron, screwing up his face in an effort to remember. "What do you think that means?"
"Probably that you're going to be eaten by a giant marshmallow or something," said Harry, turning the pages of The Dream Oracle without interest.

Weasley cannot save a thing,
He cannot block a single ring,
That's why Slytherins all sing:
Weasley is our King.

He always lets the Quaffle in,
Weasley will make sure we win,
Weasley is our King.

Weasley is our King,

He always lets the Quaffle in,

As they climbed the staircase, the photos of various Healers called out to them, diagnosing odd complaints and suggesting horrible remedies. Ron was seriously affronted when a medieval wizard called out that he clearly had a bad case of spattergoit.
"And what's that supposed to be?" he asked angrily, as the Healer pursued him through six more portraits, shoving the occupants out of the way.
"'Tis a most grievous affliction of the skin, young master, that will leave you pockmarked and more gruesome even than you are now --"
"Watch who you're calling gruesome!" said Ron, his ears turning red.
"The only remedy is to take the liver of a toad, bind it tight about your throat, stand naked by the full moon in a barrel of eels' eyes --"
"I have not got spattergoit!"
"But the unsightly blemishes on your visage, young master --"
"They're freckles!" said Ron furiously.

"Ron," said Hermione in a dignified voice, dipping the point of her quill into her ink pot, "you are the most insensitive wart I have ever had the misfortune to meet."

A slightly stunned silence greeted the end of this speech, then Ron said, "One person can't feel all that at once, they'd explode."
"Just because you've got the emotional range of a teaspoon doesn't mean we all have," said Hermione nastily, picking up her quill again.

"You should write a book," Ron told Hermione as he cut up his potatoes, "translating mad things girls do so boys can understand them."

"But now?" said Ron tentatively.
"Well now –" said George.
"–what with Dumbledore gone–" said Fred.
"–we reckon a bit of mayhem–" said George.
"–is exactly what our dear new Head deserves," said Fred.

Weasley is our King,
Weasley is our King,
He didn't let the Quaffle in,
Weasley is our King.

Weasley can save anything,
He never leaves a single ring,
That's why Gryffindors all sing:
Weasley is our King.

"And from now on, I don't care if my tea leaves spell out die, Ron, die -- I'm just chucking them in the bin where they belong."

Harry: "How did you get away?" asked Harry in amazement, taking his wand from Ron.
"Couple of Stunners, a Disarming Charm, Neville brought off a really nice Impediment Jinx," said Ron airily, now handing back Hermione's wand too. "But Ginny was best, she got Malfoy -- Bat Bogey Hex -- it was superb, his whole face was covered in the great flapping things. Anyway, we saw you heading into the forest out of the window and followed. What've you done with Umbridge?"
"She got carried away," said Harry, "by a herd of centaurs."

From Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Ginny: "Whatever you've heard from Ron is a big fat lie."
